First Offset Projects Registered in Alberta

As of March 31, 2008, seven offset projects have been registered with the Alberta Emissions Offset Registry for the 2007 compliance year:

• three reduced/no-till projects,
• two wind energy projects,
• one landfill gas project, and
• one biomass project.   

These projects represent the total amount of offsets registered (and thus eligible for serialization) equal to 1,586,015 tonnes of CO₂e and offsets retired (for compliance use for 2007 emissions) equal to 981,462 tonnes of CO₂e.     The latter represents about 25 per cent of the compliance options used by regulated facilities in Alberta for the 2007 compliance year.
