Enerclick - June 2006
June 2006I've loved riding bikes since I was five years old and had a chain-drive tricycle with solid rubber tires that flew through my Montreal neighbourhood. Today, I ride a recumbent bike and, as much as I can, commute 20 kilometres to and from work. When people ask how fast it goes, I say, "The bike's fast, but the engine's old." As more Albertans are discovering, summer is a wonderful time to leave the car at home and cycle to work. In this issue of enerclick, there's an informative story on how to safely cycle to and from work in our busy urban centres. You'll also read about a Climate Change Central pilot program that encourages taxi companies to switch to fuel- and smog-saving hybrid vehicles. As well, enerclick contains an inspiring story about Banff high school students and area businesses teaming up to produce biodiesel fuel for vehicles. Finally, to get you charged up for summer, we've got a list of solar-powered gadgets, ranging from ball caps and radios to scooters. Now, if only I could find one that would power my bike. |
