Fall Into Energy Savings

September 2006

After the scorching summer we've had in Alberta, it's nice to know there's something we all can do to preserve our precious water supplies. There's also a financial incentive to do so, thanks to the second cycle of our popular Soak Up the Savings program.

If you purchase a new energy-efficient washing machine in the next three months, you can receive a $50 rebate - plus cut your energy costs by $150 and water use by 33,000 litres per year. As you'll also read about in this issue of enerclick, several Alberta municipalities are offering similar rebates for replacing old toilets with low-flow models, which typically reduce a family's water use by at least 60,000 litres per year.

This issue's contest prize is an electronic air filter that makes your furnace run more efficiently and removes even the smallest toxins and dust particles. Our recent prize of a watt reader prompted a record number of entries. If you didn't win, you can always borrow a watt reader from the Calgary Public Library or the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley in Canmore.
